Flybird Fitness: Gear For Your Home Gym

I’ve historically been on the road a lot over the last few years, whether in a travel trailer or truck camper. However, this Flybird Fitness review comes to you in my newfound locational stability and the ability to set up a home gym for the first time in – well – forever.

They sent me a set of adjustable dumbbells and a weight bench to test out for this review and to help kickstart my 2024 fitness goals. If you need some added gear (and motivation) to kickstart yours, you’ve found yourself in the right place.

The Flybird Fitness Gear

Let’s start with a quick primer on the specs and basic features of the dumbbells and bench.

Flybird Fitness Adjustable Dumbbells – 25 lbs.

Dimensions: 15.7” L x 7.6” W x 6.3” H (per dumbbell)

Material: Carbon steel coated with high-quality nylon

Grip: Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE)

I’ve traveled with a set of 25-pound dumbbells for years. Sure, these are a bit larger than those, but now I have five sets in one. That’s the biggest advantage that Flybird has addressed here. You get five sets that take up 80% less space than traditional dumbbells.

They’re super easy to switch to your desired weight by rotating the grip and they updated their 2023 version to the hexagon shape so it fits (and stays) in the polypropylene tray with additional stability. Plus, the grips are more comfortable than your traditional metal dumbbells.

Flybird’s FB Lite adjustable weight bench is the perfect companion to the dumbbells and many of their other barbells and weights. It offers three positions for the foot support and eight positions for the backrest, allowing you to set it up for your ideal exercise and adjust it as desired.

The resistance bands easily slip over the bench’s feet to create nearly endless opportunities to expand your resistance training regimen (ideas from the TB12 Method might provide some direction if you’re curious about getting into more resistance workouts).

See if this adjustable bench is right for your home gym.

Using Flybird Fitness Gear to Set Up My Home Gym

For now, the Flybird Fitness FB Lite bench and adjustable dumbbells are in the corner of my office. But that space is a little tight. So my home gym will soon move into the storage area at the back of our garage. The benefit is that it stays cooler on warm days, but I will have to layer up a bit during the winter months.

For now, the setup is fairly simple. In addition to the FB Lite weight bench and the Flybird adjustable dumbbells, I awaiting a set of interlocking foam floor mats to create a softer surface for the weight bench and dumbbells to rest on, as well as for me to work out on.

Pros and Cons of the Flybird Fitness Adjustable Dumbbells

After a few weeks of use, here’s my list of advantages and disadvantages of these adjustable Flybird dumbbells:

Pros

5-in-1. You get five sets of dumbbells that take up the space of a single 25-pound set.

Platform. It comes with a platform for easy carrying, and so you never have to set them on the ground between uses if you want to avoid it.

Adjustability. It’s uber-easy to change between the 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25-pound setups.

Cons

Stuck plates. When using the lower weights, the dumbbells can get stuck on the plates intended to be left behind if you don’t lift them precisely vertically.

Movement. They aren’t solid dumbbells, so you’ll experience some different movements as the individual plates shift while you’re exercising.

Pros and Cons of the Flybird Fitness FB Lite Adjustable Bench

The adjustable weight bench has been great to pair with the dumbbells, but can also be used independently. Here are my pros and cons for the FB Lite bench:

Pros

Easy to assemble. It came with all the necessary hardware and tools to assemble in less than 10 minutes.

Comfortable and adjustable. The bench itself is super comfortable and the back can be adjusted with one hand to my desired angle.

Workout ready. With two sets of high-resistance elastic bands, it’s easy to use with or without additional workout equipment.

Cons

Cost? It’s honestly not too expensive when compared with others on the market and some of the older cons I’ve read (only one decline option) have been addressed with Flybird’s upgraded version.

That’s why reviews like this one have ranked it as the #1 workout bench on the market right now.

Final Thoughts on Flybird Fitness

I know some like the added socialization and accountability that come with signing up at your local gym, but if you’d rather work out in the comfort of your own home, Flybird Fitness has everything you need to create a home gym.
